“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.” —Dr. Seuss
Hip, hip, hooray! The famed and beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss would have been 108(!) today! The anniversary of the imaginative poet’s entrance into the world is a fantastic reason to spend the afternoon with your baby in your lap introducing him to the most classic of rhyming reads. (Oh, Baby, The Places You’ll Go is a perfect one to start with.)
If you’d like to extend the celebration of all things Seussical beyond books, consider adding pieces of cover art to nursery walls, wrapping your babe to a festive bath set, opting for earth-friendly disposable diapers decked out in The Lorax characters, or dressing your twins (or siblings) in Thing 1 and Thing 2 tees. Aren’t they hilarious?

In addition to paraphernalia, there are plenty of activities that let you join in on the fun as well. March 2 also marks the annual honoring of Read Across America, an awareness program encouraging children to read. Your tot may be too young to recognize letters and sound out words, but he can still benefit from hearing your voice, especially when it’s crooning the rhythmic content of Dr. Seuss’ delightful stories. Another great option? Pottery Barn Kids has special programs planned. It’s worth checking to see what your local store has in the works. Plus, The Lorax movie hits theaters March 3. And it looks awesome. You’ll have to report back if you make it to a showing!
