New mom and blogger at M Loves M Mara Ferreira worked with online design service Havenly to fashion a sweet spot in which her son Augustine can grow. Ferreira stuck with neutral colors for all her “big” items, then wove in pops of color to liven things up a bit—and the result is anything but dull.
On making a statement
“The wallpaper gives contrast to the room and makes it a little more masculine for our little guy.”
On inspiration
“I wanted to create a room that was light, bright and peaceful. Since we didn’t know our baby’s gender before he was born, the design needed to work for a boy or a girl. I love bohemian California spaces and felt like that style would suit perfectly.”
On purchase items with potential beyond babyhood
“I think it’s important to make sure you have functional and versatile pieces. Augustine’s chest is such a stunning piece that we can use in other rooms also, and the glider is perfect for the nursery but could work in our living room, too.”
On taking advantage of discount stores
“The marble side table is from Target! It looks so expensive, though.”
On creating a soft place to land
“You definitely need a place to sit and rock the baby. Our glider was the final piece to arrive for the nursery, and I was so happy once it did! You can’t not have a glider in a nursery.”
On making space for baby
“Having baskets for toys and blankets is crucial.”
On bringing in the elements
“I love this mirror. The wooden detail adds an earthiness that balances out all the white.”
