Baby Delight Snuggle Nest Surround

The first thing I noticed about the Snuggle Nest Surround was how compact it is! It is so lightweight and easily foldable, which means I will still be able to make my bed every day and simply store it out of sight.

Looking at the box, this co-sleeping device seems like the perfect way to safely have your baby in your bed. However, you really only have the box to go off of as no assembly instructions are inside, only the parts (which there aren’t too many of). To use, you simply unfasten the velcro strap to open the product and place the baby in between the walls. I really love that the walls are made of a breathable fabric, so that if by chance my baby did end up against the side, she could still breathe. The fact that airflow isn’t hindered already allows for a less stressful night of sleep.

The fabric that lines the outside of the co-sleeping device is also a pretty, neutral color, and although the pattern seems to be more on the feminine side, the overall appearance could work for either gender. This product folds in half easily. A velcro strap secures it closed, making it easy to pack and move when traveling—a huge plus if I need to take my newborn out of town! It isn’t bulky, which means I can pack other items around it. When folded, the flat surfaces also allow for it to be stored at the top of a closet or on a shelf.

It would also be possible to move or open the Snuggle Nest Surround while holding baby with one arm, as there is just one simple snap. (We all know that anything that can be done one-handed makes life a lot easier for new moms.) So, you can prep baby’s sleep space without putting her down and disturbing her too much.

There is a wedge type piece that can be used to create a slope for your baby, similar to the beds used in most hospitals, as research has shown that newborns prefer to sleep at an angle. (It can also help relive colic symptoms!) This feature was very appealing as I could see it as a transitional aid toward moving baby to a flatter surface like a crib when she’s a bit older. The actual padding of the mattress is not something I as an adult would find comfortable, but if your baby is swaddled, it is not likely that they would mind the feel of it. (Plus, your comfy bed is underneath, supporting the sleeper.)

One thing to keep in mind is that this co-sleeping device can only be used for the first few months of baby’s life due to size and the fact that once your baby is more mobile, it would be very hard to keep her in it. (There is no weight limit—but once your baby gets too tall it might be time to move on to another sleeping option.) Another point to consider is the size of mom and dad’s bed. In my queen size bed, we are shoulder to shoulder with the Snuggle Nest Surround. It would be a lot more comfortable if you have a larger bed or if there was only one person in bed with baby. It could still be used for naps in your bedroom during the day, which is my favorite way to use the sleeper.

The Snuggle Nest Surround features a speaker that can play music or white noise near baby’s head to lull little ones to sleep. The walls at the top and bottom are sturdy, so your covers won’t creep over baby’s head during the night. The side walls are more flexible, which is helpful because you can easily reach in and pull your wee one out to nurse for those middle-of-the-night feedings—but at the same time, I worried my body would encroach on baby’s space. Since I prefer to use the sleeper as a portable nap space, I don’t worry about this as much.

If the mattress sheet gets stained, it is easily washable, (always a plus), and the sides can easily be cleaned as well. All in all, the Snuggle Nest Surround is a great option to have on hand for new baby, in case she decides she can’t sleep without mommy by her side.
