Whoever first said you can’t reinvent the wheel obviously didn’t work in the baby gear industry—just look at how many diverse strollers (newbie’s first set of wheels!) are on the market today. Essentials we use for daily parenting and transporting our kiddos have been reimagined, upgraded, and packed with modern features again and again, offering parents a unique opportunity to choose models that best match their family’s needs.

While many go-to brands and their beloved products are tried and true, knowing what else is out there when deciding what to add to your baby registry or current inventory of gear can be beneficial. To help get you started, we’ve compiled a list of new and noteworthy products to consider. While many of these baby items come with a higher price tag, keep in mind that they serve as investment pieces that fulfill multiple functions or can be used again in the future—or both! Whether you’re looking for gear with better technology or improved safety features, or simply want to check out the latest and greatest, these 2023 releases are ripe for the picking.

CYBEX Aton G Swivel Infant Car Seat

CYBEX was the first company to release a rotating car seat in the U.S. with its Sirona S convertible car seat (check out our in-depth review). Now, they’ve done it again with the Aton G Swivel, the first infant car seat to feature both a 180-degree rotation for easier buckling and an anti-rebound bar for advanced crash protection. The rotating component lets you turn the car seat toward your vehicle door, making strapping your little one less of a hassle. And at just 9 pounds, the Aton G Swivel is the lightest CYBEX carrier and is easy to load in and out throughout the day. It also boasts an 11-position no-rethread adjustable headrest, a gliding recline feature to gently adjust the seat angle (even when it’s locked into the base), Linear Side-Impact Protection (L.S.P) to reduce collision forces, and a locking belt tensioner for quick installation. Ages 0 to 18 months; 4 to 35 pounds; up to 32 inches

Evenflo Shyft DualRide Car Seat-Stroller

Evenflo released its version of the innovative car seat-stroller hybrid and added some impressive storage to make the Shyft DualRide an all-in-one product that meets multiple needs for parents. This combo can go from “the backseat to the street in a heartbeat” thanks to built-in wheels that release for stroller mode and retract before connecting to the car seat base (or if you need to walk up or down a set of stairs, encounter a cobblestone sidewalk, etc.). Not only will you require less gear while out and about, but you’ll also avoid disturbing your baby as often by keeping them in the same seat for riding and strolling. The Shyft DualRide comes with a removable carryall storage bag, wheel protectors to keep dirt off your backseat, and a removable cup holder for caregivers (the little things matter). It also includes integrated SensorSafe technology that alerts you in real time of potentially dangerous conditions, such as unsafe temperatures, an unbuckled chest clip, or if a child is unattended in a vehicle for too long. This is one piece of gear you (and your biceps) will surely be thankful for. 3 to 35 pounds; 15.7 to 32 inches

Chicco SnugSupport 4-in-1 Infant Carrier

Bring closeness and convenience together with Chicco’s new SnugSupport 4-in-1 Infant Carrier. The soft-structured baby carrier has padded head support for newbies and an ergonomically designed seat with adjustable leg panels for a proper fit that can be customized to your baby’s growth and development. The Chicco SnugSupport can be used in four positions: two parent-facing options, a front-carry outward-facing option, and a back-carry position for older tots. Wide shoulder straps and lumbar support help distribute baby’s weight evenly along the hips, back, and shoulders for more comfort (especially with longer use). It also comes with adjustable waist and back straps to create a custom fit for wearers and attachment loops for keeping small items within reach, so you can be hands-free while comforting your little one. Ages 0 to 30 months; 7.5 to 33 pounds

Newton Baby Travel Crib & Play Yard

Newton Baby is known for their Wovenaire technology that makes its crib mattresses more breathable and safer for babies. The new Travel Crib & Play Yard features the same innovation and extended lifetime of use; its mattress core is 100% breathable and washable, making it the perfect spot for sleep and play for years to come. This play yard is twice the size of average models, boasting the largest surface area available on the market, and it features an optional bassinet insert (also made with Wovenaire Core; sold separately) for added versatility during the earlier months with your newbie. Mesh siding provides unhindered airflow and visibility, and an exterior zipper allows for easy side access. What’s more, it’s lightweight at 17 pounds, folds compactly, and comes with an organic cotton muslin sheet and travel bag for transport and storage.

babyark The Convertible Car Seat

Form and function come together in the new innovative babyark, a smart car seat engineered with military-grade technology that provides multiple layers of enhanced protection to keep your little one safe and secure: the seat is made with carbon fiber (the first of its kind!), a steel core, and chemical-free, flame-retardant materials; the 14-sensor smart base guides you through a step-by-step installation process (with the help of the babyark app) that confirms the seat is installed correctly, and it’s packed with energy-absorbing steel coils that extend on impacts and slow momentum in a crash; the babyark app continually monitors your child’s seat to ensure it’s properly connected, securely installed, and that your baby is safely buckled and attended to while in the vehicle. There are myriad safety features and bells and whistles to check out with this seat, but a particularly impressive thing to note is that, unlike traditional car seats, babyark never expires, thanks to its use of high-grade materials that don’t degrade over time. However, babyark is currently only compatible with 80% of all vehicles, so confirm whether it works with your make and model beforehand. This car seat is available for preorder and will ship in early September. Ages 0 months to 6 years; rear-facing: 4 to 55 pounds; forward-facing: 26.5 to 65 pounds; up to 49 inches

It can also be used in “on-the-go mode” for continual monitoring and tracking while walking, driving in the car, or visiting family.
