New Baby Gear For the New Year

By Published On: January 20th, 2023

From strollers to bouncers to bath essentials and more, here are the products you should add to your inventory in 2023.

The new year introduces a fresh start, and whether you’re expecting a newbie in 2023 and need to create a baby registry, or you’d like to upgrade your current gear inventory, we’ve rounded up some of the best, newest, and coolest baby products to add to your shopping list and start the year off right.

We understand that baby gear doesn’t come cheap, and we are all about buying items secondhand when it’s appropriate. But sometimes investing in the latest model or the hottest new tech gives you the comfort of knowing the product meets current safety standards, is compatible with the latest technology, and is built (or improved) with parent feedback in mind.

Convertible Stroller

The new Graco Modes Nest2Grow Stroller has 15 configurations (yup, you read that right!), so you and your little one can find your perfect stride. The stroller can be used as a pram, travel system, toddler stroller, or double stroller, and with the Slide2Me feature, your babe’s seat can be brought closer to you. Plus, it has all the practical components you want in a stroller, like ample storage for a diaper bag and other baby essentials, cup holders, and snack trays, and the aesthetic features you appreciate (we’re looking at you, luxe leather handle!). $390 for the stroller; additional seats sold separately

Travel Stroller

If you’re searching for something more compact and mobile-friendly, the upgraded Nuna TRIV Next lightweight stroller is one of the sleekest and most feature-packed travel companions on the block. Large rear wheels create a smoother maneuvering experience compared to other compact options, and the all-weather seat helps baby stay comfortable no matter the outside elements. But what really makes this stroller shine is its impressive one-hand fold; a simple lever collapses the seat in an instant, so you can carry it down subway stairs or stow it in the trunk of a vehicle with little effort. $700

Baby Wagon

This innovative new product recently made our list of best wagons, and our love for it is still going strong. With four seats and a weight capacity of 500 pounds, the Veer Cruiser XL can hold a whole lot of kids and all the stuff that leaves the house with them. All-terrain wheels and a rotating handle make getting from point A to point B no problem, and once your young riders have hopped out, their chariot folds flat. $799

Highchair

The Boon GRUB High Chair is a long-lasting purchase that will accommodate your kiddo through their toddler years. The chair and footrest are height adjustable, and after the first year, once your little one is a “big kid,” you can convert the GRUB into a regular chair they can use at a play table. Best of all, both the tray and the seat are dishwasher safe and, as Boon puts it, they have no “evil crumb-catching crevices.” IYKYK. $172

Portable Highchair

If you’re in need of a highchair with a smaller footprint, or a portable one that you can easily take to a restaurant or Grandma’s house, we are seriously impressed with the Chicco FastLock 360 Hook-On Chair. The FastLock securely clamps onto dining tables, but what sets this one apart from similar products is the seat that can spin all the way around (much like an activity center). This way your baby can comfortably face any direction, whether that be toward the solids in front of them or the grownup by their side, making feedings easier and more versatile. $90

Bassinet

The newest iteration of a beloved bassinet is the HALO BassiNest 3.0. We have to give it up for its unique swivel feature that allows you to move the crib 90 degrees so you can easily get in and out of bed in the middle of the night without disturbing your new baby. Plus, the mesh, collapsable walls make airflow and retrieving your babe a breeze (pun intended) and are machine washable. The bassinet detaches from the base for portability around the house, so your baby always has a safe space to sleep or get in a little bit of tummy time. $219 for the bassinet, mattress, and fitted sheet

Monitor

With the Motorola PIP1610 HD Connect Baby Monitor, you get the best of both worlds: a standalone baby monitor for when you’re at home, and a mobile app so you can see your baby sleep the next time you snag a sitter. The camera in baby’s room can be swiveled and tilted remotely on the included wall mount, and the highly sensitive mic picks up even the quietest of peeps. We also love that the Motorola Nursery App allows you to play soothing sounds, lullabies, and personal audio recordings from the camera. $180

Bath Essentials

The stylish LALO Bathtime Full Kit is one of our favorite baby products because it has everything you need to simply, safely, and comfortably bathe your baby. The set comes with a baby bathtub that converts as they grow from newborn to toddler, a cup to carefully rinse out baby shampoo and soap, a bath toy bin, and a knee saver. Plus, we have to give bonus points for the often-forgotten spout cover (to keep their hands and heads away from holes and hard surfaces) and elbow saver (after all, it’s not just your knees you’re leaning on). $165

Potty Essentials

When you’re ready to transition your baby out of diapers (and finally throw out that stinky diaper pail) the FridaBaby All-in-One Potty Kit will make the process of potty training a little less shitty. The set includes a potty that transitions from “going” on the floor to going on the toilet (we love products that grow with baby!), potty liners and floor mats, and a special training guide with tips from renowned clinical psychologist Dr. Becky. (It’s nice to have extra pointers.) $60

Car Seat

We can’t wrap our heads around the fact that the world went so long without rotating car seats. Enjoy them, new parents! The Evenflo Gold Revolve360 Rotational All-in-One Convertible Car Seat spins 360 degrees to change from a rear-facing infant car seat to a forward-facing car seat to a booster, but what we like even more is that it rotates 90 degrees and locks in place so you can easily get your rear-facing rider situated. Then just turn it toward the back and lock it in place once again. “So I’m the mom who hits her kid’s head off the car every time I put them in the car because I’m focusing on which way to face them and put them feet first,” said one relatable Amazon reviewer. “But we recently bought two of these! Putting the kid in the car with them facing you is the best thing ever.” $399

Breast Pump

For breastfeeding parents, we are seriously impressed with Babyation’s portable breast pump. The Pump comes with the world’s smallest breast shields, vacuum-boost technology that mimics suckling, and a super quiet motor that won’t disrupt naptime. All the pieces, bottles, and an ice pack can fit in the case for on-the-go pumping, and the tubes are fully recyclable. Plus, the whole system connects to the Babyation app which can control the pump and track your breast milk progress. $499

Bouncer

The Ergobaby Evolve 3-in-1 Bouncer can support your child (literally) through their toddler years. With the newborn inserted and positioned at the lowest level, the bouncer can cradle the youngest of cuties (just remember to move them to a crib if they start to doze off). Once they are a little older, remove the insert and adjust the bouncer to a slightly steeper incline. Babies can then rock slightly and soothe themselves. Then, in their toddler years, the bouncer can be raised to its highest position and used as a chair. And of course, we love that the bouncer has a machine-washable cover and folds flat to stow away or move from place to place with ease. $199

Playard

The Chicco Alfa Lite Lightweight Travel Playard is a safe, convenient, and portable place for your curious cutie to play with their baby toys or get some much-needed sleep. When you’re off to a loved one’s house or a vacation rental, the Alfa Lite is quick and easy to fold and stash in its carry bag. And with a zippered side panel, you can gently place your little one inside the playard instead of awkwardly plopping them down from above. Bonus: The frame fabrics are removable and machine-washable.  $170

With these prime picks, you and your (favorite) newest addition can stroll, play, explore, and just enjoy each day of this new year together.
