Let’s be honest: Lullabies have always been pretty boring. They’re designed to put kids to sleep, so they serve their purpose well … but they’re not enjoyable at all for the adults involved. (After all, we’re usually fighting to stay awake!) Or, at least, they weren’t enjoyable at all, until Rockabye Baby came along to save the day.
Love your Metallica? The Rolling Stones? Coldplay? There’s all that and more available in soft melodic versions of big hits from popular groups that manage to soothe baby while giving mom and pop something to sing along to. There are so many good options that it was seriously hard for me to settle on just a few. (We ended up with Lullaby Renditions of The Beatles, Lullaby Renditions of U2 and Lullaby Renditions of Smashing Pumpkins, but there are several more I still want!)
The songs are designed for babies—much softer and slower than the original versions—but you’ll definitely recognize and appreciate the familiar tunes. You can find the albums at rockabyebabymusic.com or download the albums or individual songs at iTunes—perfect if you like to mix a little “Smells Like Teen Spirit” with your “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
