A is for Air

In honor of Baby Safety Month, we'd like to highlight a great new product making strides in the world of baby safety. When it comes to starting a family, few products are more important than the car seat. Not only does a car seat keep your wee one safe and comfy while cruising, it will likely become his home away from home in restaurants, grocery stores and anywhere else you tote your tot on a daily basis. It's amazing that something so basic can be such a big part of a parent's life---and that's also why it's exciting to discover that companies are striving to introduce new seat features that help make life easier on parents, and safer for their babies.

An innovative new car seat is hitting the market this September: The Safety 1st Air Protect seat introduces new technology that is designed to protect children in side impact collisions by putting a layer of air protection around the child's head. Through the precise, calibrated release of air through chambers, Air Protect extends the amount of time it takes to slow down a child's movement in a crash. Thus creating a slower, softer landing, instead of an immediate, harsh impact.

So how do you know if this new car seat is worth your time? Well, first off, it's undergone some pretty intense testing to curb the staggering statistics of child car-crash fatalities, 1 of 3 of which are specifically attributed to side impact crashes. These numbers have dramatically risen by 20% over the past two decades, which is why Kettering University (founded by General Motors in 1919 and leaders in the auto industry's safety innovations) paired with Dorel Juvenile Group (the leading manufacturer of car seats globally) to create Air Protect. Currently, there are no side impact testing regulations for car seats, but the Dorel/Kettering Method of testing is set to become an industry first, and the Air Protect a leader in car seat safety.
